Udupi: Normally ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ is observed on 26th June every year, since 1989 and with duel objectives, the campaign to raise awareness on the one hand and on the other to treat affected people with compassion, respect and empathy. To caution and alert the teenagers about the fast spreading addiction, a Seminar was held on Thursday, 27th June 2024 at 11.00 am in the National Auditorium.
The session started with prayer hymn sung by Class X students, followed by formal welcome by Mrs Usha Kiran Shetty, Lecturer in Mathematics.
Sub Inspector Mr Madhu from Brahmavar Police Station was the resource person who spoke exhaustively on drug abuse, consumption of Tobacco, Road and Traffic rules, Mobile and Cyber Crimes, Artificial intelligence etc and cautioned to keep away from all sorts of intoxicative products which harm not only physical and mental health but also spiritually… and life of effected youth in the society is pathetic and many a time face a tragic end. ‘Student life to a great extent influenced by friends circle and choosing true and right friends equally important’ he advised.
To invite inputs from the students earlier a spot Essay Competition was conducted and the Winners were encouraged with prizes on this occasion.
Mr Archibald Furtado, Administrator coordinator of the National Institutions too was present on the dais shared few insights while referring the key note address and cautioned about the consumption of alcohol and driving, especially two wheelers. He took the opportunity to thank the police dept on behalf of the College and Management, especially Inspector Mr Madhu for his inspiring talk.
Principal Prof U Kottraswamy in his concluding remarks, reminded the students, as the nation invest and spends enormous resources on youth and for their education and empowerment, and all are duty bound to pay back, being the responsible citizens of tomorrow. As a token of gratitude, Principal handed over a memento to SI Mr Madhu.
Mrs Jyothy A Shetty, Sr Science teacher NHS, proposed vote of thanks to all who organised, present and participated. The session concluded by 1.00 pm, which was meticulously presented by Mrs Jyothy, Lecturer in Kannada, to be effective and informative.
