Apostolic Nuncio visits Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur.

Udupi: His Grace Archbishop Eugene Martin Nugent, an Irish Roman Catholic prelate and Apostolic Nuncio to Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, visited the diocese of Udupi on June 3, 2024. He paid a visit to Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur, accompanied by the Bishop of Udupi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Vicar General Msgr. Ferdinand Gonsalves and Chancellor Rev. Dr. Roshan D’Souza.

The Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Very Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca, along with Rev. Fr. Pradeep Cardoza (Asst. Parish Priest), Rev. Fr. Manoj Furtado, SFX, Rev. Sisters of Rose Convent, and parishioners, warmly welcomed the Nuncio.

After a prayer session, Fr. Mendonca briefed the Nuncio on the history and current spiritual and educational contributions of the Cathedral. He highlighted that Milagres Church, founded in 1678, has been the mother parish to neighboring parishes such as Mount Rosary, Kemmannu, Thottam, Udyavara, Brahmavar, Perampally, Kolalgiri, Pethri, Barkur, and Sasthan. He also mentioned the parish’s various associations that contribute to its spiritual growth and detailed its six educational institutions: St. Joseph’s Higher Primary School (1892), LVP School (1926), Milagres High School (1931), Milagres P U College (1967), Milagres College (1969), and Milagres English Medium School (1980), all of which provide quality education with spiritual and human values.

In his response, the Nuncio expressed gratitude to the Bishop of Udupi, the Rector of the Cathedral, and everyone present for their warm welcome. He wished them a successful Jubilee Year 2025 and imparted his blessings to the parish and all those assembled.
