Udupi: The Kakkunje Fatima Ward Feast, commemorating its centenary, took place on Sunday, October 22, 2023. The day was marked by a series of events and gatherings to celebrate this special occasion.
In the morning, at 8 am, a Mass was celebrated at the Milagres Cathedral by Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca, the Cathedral’s Rector. Joining him were Fr. Vincent Crasta, the Director of Kakkunje Anugraha Pastoral Centre, and Fr. Cyril Lobo, Director of Divya Jyoti. Large number of ward members, in honour of their Patron – Our Lady of Fatima were present to express their gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon the ward and parishioners. Following the Mass, a Rosary was recited at the statue of Our Lady of Fatima by all Ward members.
Later in the evening, at 4:30 pm, a get-to-gather and cultural program was held at the residence of Mr. Walter Cyril Pinto. The program commenced with a Rosary recital and was attended by most of the Ward members.
Distinguished guests including Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Fr. Joy Andrade, Fr. Cyril Pinto, Fr. Allwyn from the Carmelite order, and sisters from the Rose Convent and Maria Kripa, Ozanam Home, graced the occasion. Also in attendance were Mr. Melwyn Sequeira, Vice President of the PPC, the Secretary of the PPC, Convener of the Diocesan Commissions, and Gurkars representing other wards.
Media representatives from Kemmannu.com and Kallianpur.com too were present on the occasion. Flavia Dias, the Gurkar of the ward, extended a warm welcome to everyone. A variety of dance and cultural performances were showcased by children, adults, and youth, highlighting their talents. Gurkars Dr. Neri Cornelio, Mr. Julius Gonsalves, and Mrs. Sylvia Lewis and Very Senior Citizens Mrs. Lilly Furtado and Mr. Joseph Lewis were honoured on the occasion.
Shenroy Dias organized various games and everyone participated enthusiastically. The program was skillfully hosted by Mrs. Florine Dsouza, while Mr. George Dsouza and Mable Dsouza, active ward representatives, played a crucial role in supporting the event. Prizes were distributed to all the deserving winners.
The grand celebration concluded with a sumptuous meal served to all attendees, making the Kakkunje Fatima Ward Feast a memorable and joyous centenary milestone.
