Evolution and Glory of Milagres High School during Head Master Rev Fr. Alfred J. Tellis.

Here is a painting as a tribute to the famous English teacher, the Head Master of Milagres High School Rev. Fr. Alfred J. Tellis. A man so noble, a man who has left his deep imprint on each and every student of his, will definitely agree, if you have ever studied in Milagres High School during 1939 –1965 and each one will have his own story to tell of his experience with Fr. Tellis.

A man of simplicity and righteousness came to Kallianpur in 1933 soon after his ordination as Assistant Parish priest, took over as the Head Master of Milagres High School in 1938. He was a music enthusiast, a composer by himself. Hence with his arrival in Kallianpur there came the church Harmonium, the violin and the school band with variety of musical instruments and the sudden outburst of full-throated singing and music in Church and in School. He was always ready with new hymns and songs for the children and to teach tirelessly with enormous amount of patience and a remarkable capacity for endurance. Inspite of his busy schedule of strenuous work, both at school and in the church, he was always energetic, ever cheerful, ever smiling. In 1965 Rev. Fr. A J Tellis retired as Head Master of the school after a service of well over three decades. He had been a friend, philosopher and guide to his colleagues and innumerable students.

When I was in sixth seventh STD. Fr, Tellis would tell me to carry his violin to the morning Assembly stage. After singing school and national anthem Violin would come back to me to take it back to the office room. I am his favorite and proud to say that I was his mouth piece for his new composed songs. We would practice on the big piano in his room. I used to wonder why am I to sing a different tune than the melody only to realize now, that there were voices.
