Udupi: The first edition of the series of lectures “Jnyana Divige” to familiarise the Kannada culture and literature among the young students of Class X and PU, the National Junior College Barkur organised half a day Seminar in its Auditorium on Thursday, 18th July, 2024 at 2.30 pm.
Principal Prof U Kottraswamy informed, in his presidential address ‘many events either cancelled or postponed due to torrential rain and flooding in the past couple weeks, however this special lecture from a renowned researcher and a well known writer, Dr Ramesh Acharya proved to be a curtain raiser, beginning of series of talks and workshops, to provoke young minds to demand for more…Attentive ears and minds, are the evidence for the eagerness and curiosity in youngsters to know, understand and learn the rich and diversified Kannada literature…’ he opined.
The event was given a formal beginning by the crispy introduction from Mrs Jyothy, Lecturer in Kannada who meticulously presented the event. After invoking blessings through prayer by the students, Mrs Usha Kiran Shetty, Lecturer in Mathematics extended a warm, cordial and floral welcome to the resource person Dr Acharya and other dignitaries on the dais. To mark the inauguration of the seminar, Guests lit the traditional oil lamp.
In his scholarly, quick witted talk, Dr Ramesh Acharya, the Principal of the Govt First Grade College, Barkur, explained the roots and various forms of rich Kannada folklore and literature. He quoted many categories of songs, proverbs, sayings etc from both known and unknown poets and writers of yesteryears. All time ancient greats like Nadoja Pampa, Ranna, Raghavanka, Sarvajna, Basava, Akkamahdevi, Allamprabhu and others were given tribute by reciting couple of their precious lines. It was a treat for students to understand the meaning of riddles, oral traditions, jokes and proverbs as they too actively participated in resolving and answering…
Prof P. Archibald Furtado, Administrative coordinator of the National Educational Institutions, profusely thanked and as a mark of gratitude’s, presented a memento the Principal Dr Ramesh Acharya, as “this insightful lecture not only inspired the students but also rekindled passion and curiosity in teachers and all of us…”
Headmistress of the National High School section Mrs Hemavathy PS proposed vote of thanks as the well organised programme concluded at 4.15 pm.
