Udupi: Milagres College Kallianpur in association with KMC hospital, Manipal conducted a mega blood donation camp for faculty and students on November 21, 2023 in the Milagres College Kallianpur premises.
Dr Shami Shastry, the Director of Blood Centre , KMC hospital Manipal said the hospitals today are not able to meet the blood needs of the needy patients as there are few donors volunteering for donating the blood, hence she exhorted the students community to make it a passion to donate blood periodically. She was speaking to the students community after inaugurating the blood donation program.
There will be enormous industries to produce a variety of products, but none can produce a drop of blood, other than a human body – said Dr Vincent Alva the college, addressing the students. At times finding blood for our own kith and kin is a task, he added emphasis on the importance of making blood donation a routine habit.
148 donors volunteered for blood donation out of which 92 students and faculty were qualified to donate blood.
The HDFC Bank Udupi, Lions club, Kallianpur, Rotary Club, Udupi, NSS, youth Red Cross, Rangers and Rovers, Alumni Association of Milagres College joined hands with the program.
