Udupi: Msgr. Ferdinand Gonsalves, Vicar General of the Diocese of Udupi, has been appointed Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur. This follows the passing of Fr. Valerian Mendonca, the former rector, on July 3, 2024, with his funeral held on July 8, 2024.
Fr. Gonsalves was appointed Vicar General by Bishop Dr. Gerald Issac Lobo on April 1, 2023. Born on September 29, 1955, to John Gonsalves and Angeline Rebello of Kundapur, he was ordained in 1985. He holds degrees in Theology, Science, English, and Education.
He has served as an assistant priest in Kulshekar, assistant director at St. Antony Ashram, Jeppu, and parish priest in Kokkada, Byndoor, Ujire, Kemmannu, and Pangala. He has also been the principal of colleges in Puttur, Ujire, Lourdes Central School Bejai, Milagres PU College Kallianpur, and Bidar. Additionally, he is the spiritual director of Catholic Sabha and the diocesan director of the Laity Commission of the Udupi Diocese.
