NJC Barkur organised two days of Athletic Competitions on 26th & 27th December, 2023.

Udupi: Sports day will be a day most of the students eagerly wait and that too at the High School and Pre University Colleges. With necessary preparations, led by its Physical Education Director Mr Umesh Shetty, Mr A H Gowda and their cohesive team that lasted for weeks to have tracks fields, pits and grounds running, jumping and throwing skills.

The colourful inaugural programme was presided over by Mr Shedikodlu Vittal Shetty, (in the absence of Mr B Shantarama Shetty; the President of The Barkur Educational Society) and the event was given a fascinating start with hoisting of flag to uplift the sportsmanship by Mr Shedikodlu Vittal Shetty, the Vice President, BES and A disciplined march-past with School band, NCC, Scouts and Guides and that followed with receiving salute / guard of honour Mr Ashok Kumar Shetty, the Secretary of BES, taking of oaths and other traditional formalities.

Retired Principal Mr B Seetarama Shetty honoured and congratulated the first set of winners on the victory stand. Mr Rajaram Shetty, the chairman of NJC Platinum Jubilee Celebrations wished the annual athletic meet a grand success and good luck to all young athletes. Among others, Treasurer Mr Krishna Hebbar, Mr  S Ratnakara Shetty, President – NJC Old Students Association, Mr Archibald Furtado, Admn Co-ordinator of National Gr. Edu. Institutions, Members of BES, teachers and parents.

In the beginning, Principal National Pre-University College Prof Kottraswamy extended warm and cordial welcome to all guests and wished all the very best to participants, who tussle for medals in

the following two days. As Mrs Jyothy A Shetty, Senior teacher and others took charge of the proceedings, the short inaugural event was concluded with proposing vote of thanks by the Head mistress of the High School section Mrs Hemavathy PS.

Two days of activities, competitions were held and old students, former teachers, other well wishers, parents paid visit to the College to have a glimpse of various races and relays throughout the days. All Lecturers, trainers and coaches, teaching and nonteaching staff actively involved in the conducting and recording of events, running commentary, announcements and distribution of medals, certificates etc.

Next day i.e. 27th December, early morning  the ground was all set to witness the events especially track related various races for both High School and PU Students. Relay was one received great support and encouragement by the onlookers. Around 1.30 pm, the sports event was come to a close, as it was a moment to celebrate – victories, the efforts, the friendships and memories that will last a life time not only for Champions but also for all the participants.

As the organisers announced that whirlwind of excitement, energy and emotions that experienced on this huge grounds a short and formal closing ceremony was held by dignified lowering of the flag by Mr Archibald Furtado, and handing it over to the Head of the Institution Principal U Kotraswamy. Former Office Head Clerk & Rotary President Mr Seetarama, Mr Jayananda Poojary and others too were present. Yes until we meet again, keep playing, practicing, striving and dreaming.
