Udupi: National Junior College, Barkur started the new academic year 2024-25 with two days seminars scheduled on Tuesday, 4th June & 5th June 2024 with learned and seasoned resources persons.
Much needed workshop as a prelude to the hectic learning experience served as a platform to mix, understand and know each other as the students hailing from more than 28 different High Schools begun their student life together under one roof breathing the same source of fresh air.
First day on 4th June 2024, as the nation watching the election results in their TV and mobiles, Dr Krishnamurthy an eminent youth trainer kept around 135 students spell bound from 10.15 m to 1.00 pm, as he narrated various stories and real life incidents in the life of students. He conducted some games and slide shows to make the sessions impressive and involving all.
In the beginning of the Seminar, Mrs Jyothi Lecturer in Kannada gave a brief introduction of Prof Krishnamurthy and the Secretary of the Barkur Educational Society Mr Ashok Kumar Shetty shared few insightful thoughts to evoke curiosity and interest in the young minds to make best use of the opportunities offered in the NJC.
All the members of the teaching faculty were present throughout the two hour long sessions to demonstrate their interest in learning new and modern ways of teaching and communication methodology. As the prolonged session come to an end at 1.15 pm, Principal Prof U Kottraswamy thanked the visiting resources person and as a mark of respect handed over a memento.
Retired principal B. Seetharama Shetty, Correspondent of the College Mr Gopala Naik, Admn Co-ordinator- National Educational Institutions – P. Archibald Furtado was also present.
After the serious thought provoking morning session at 2.15 the second session was commenced. Prof Anil Danthi, Milagres College Kallianpur was the resources person. In his unique style and skilled presentation mesmerised the young hearts and conveyed very serious messages with humour pills.
He emphasised on many issues – social responsibilities of teenagers, learning to cook, cleanliness and basic task of day today life, to be independent and self supporting, both at home and in society. It was truly a lively session involving the participants’ best way possible. The deliberations and some funny real episodes and incidents surely cherished by the participants in days to come.
Once all gathered in the National Auditorium, Mr P. Archibald Furtado gave a brief introduction of the speaker and to conclude the workshop Principal U Kottarswamy profusely thanked Mr Danthi for his valuable time and talent in boosting the spirits of PU students at large.
To continue the ongoing orientation programme on Wednesday, 5th June, 2024, eminent Consultant, psychologist and youth trainer Mr Girish MN , Vidyarthi Mitra Seva Trust, Achladi, was invited to address the students at 2.00 pm. Mr Girish addressed many trivial issues facing the teenagers – biological and physical changes at adolescence stage and adapting to these natural phenomena.
He also focussed on traits, stress management and explained with examples how to overcome them with ABC formula. Since the time was short he narrated the adverse role of modern gadgets like mobiles and its addiction like games and shared tips how to remain away from such influence and temptations.
Once the speakers and principal and staff arrived to the venue, Mrs Vijayalaxmi, Lecturer in Commerce, extended a homely welcome to all and gave a brief introduction Of Mr Girish to the audience. As the session concluded at 4.00 pm, Principal Prof U Kottraswamy acknowledged the best efforts of Resource Person in dealing with very sensitive issues and enlightening the students and as a mark of our respects and gratitude’s handed over a memento.
Altogether it is a wonderful experience to PU Students of NJC Barkur to carry home something to preserve for lifetime as they start their respective study courses and concentrate.
