Udupi: It’s truly a pleasant morning – the children learning in the Maryknoll dressed in colourful attires seen overjoyed to celebrate national Republic day festival. Headmistress Mrs Joyce Vandan DSa and her team of teachers prepared their students for the big event as meticulously as the guests witnessed a beautiful assembly and followed cultural programme.
At sharp 9.00 am, Mr Eric L Carvalho Vice President of SPA Barkur – Mumbai, unfurled the national tricolour in the august presence of Mr Ivan Suares the executive committee member and former Treasurer, Mr Divyanand Gonsalves Trustee of GBCT along with Mr Archibald Furtado, Administrator of National Educational Institutions, Barkur.
In her welcoming address Headmistress of the School recalled the generous help and contributions of SPA Barkur Mumbai, SPA Bangalore, GBCT (Global Barkurian Trust) and other kind hearted persons for their perennial support and well being in the past and thanked on behalf of the management and students.
Student leaders narrated the significance of Republic Day and the importance of Constitution as the nation woke up to remember the great sacrifices of freedom fighters and armed forces and all who served to see the modern India celebrating unity in diversity.
To conclude the grand event teacher Mrs Reema Lobo proposed vote of thanks to all gathered and made the programme not only successful but also enjoyable with active involvement of all the teachers and students.
The students exhibited wonderful performances in the form of dances and songs and were served with snacks and sweets.
