*Report on Catholic Sabha, Milagres Cathedral Unit Foundation Day*
Udupi : Celebration of the Catholic Sabha, Milagres Cathedral Unit Foundation Day, took place on Sunday, 2nd July 2023. The event was attended by several distinguished guests, Sabha Members and Parish community.
The President and Secretary of the Catholic Sabha, Reginald Lewis and Marina Lewis respectively, invited the following guests to the stage:
1. Mr. Santosh Cornelio – Past President
2. Mr. Jeffrey Dias – Founding Secretary of the Unit
3. Mr. Melwyn Sequeira – PPC Vice President
4. Prema Lewis – Pastoral Council Secretary
The program commenced with a prayer.
It was noted that the Milagres Cathedral Unit has had two Presidents of the Central Catholic Sabha Unit. Mr. Gerald Pinto and Mr. Walter Cyril Pinto, who served during the undivided Mangalore Diocese days, were acknowledged for their significant contributions and various other responsibilities they undertook. Their services were duly recognized and appreciated.
President Reginald Lewis extended a warm welcome to all the guests in attendance, expressing gratitude for their presence at the function.
The Milagres Cathedral Unit, which was established on 18th July 1989, paid homage to its founding President, Mr. Percy Lewis, who is no longer with us. A prayer was offered for the repose of his soul. A minute of silence was observed to honour the memory of Elias Lasrado from Puttur Ward, who served in the Unit from 1993 to 1995, as well as F M D’Souza from Milagres A ward, who served as President in the year 1995-96.
The event was graced by the presence of Spiritual Director Fr. Velerian Mendonca, Rector of the Cathedral, and Asst. Parish Priest Fr. Joy Andrade, who joined the congregation in celebrating this significant milestone.
Mr. Jeffrey Dias, the Founding Secretary of the Unit, delivered a brief address, sharing his thoughts on the occasion and reflecting on the unit’s journey since its inception.
This year marks the completion of 34 years since the establishment of the Milagres Cathedral Unit, a significant milestone that was celebrated with great joy and reverence.
The Catholic Sabha, Milagres Cathedral Unit Foundation Day was a momentous occasion that brought together current and past leaders, members, and well-wishers to commemorate the unit’s history and achievements.
