Udupi: It was a bright and shiny Saturday of jubilations and celebration in the National Campus at Barkur, as its two premier Institutions organised Annual Prize Distribution Day. National High School with its 77 years of resounding history and the National PU College  52 great and successful years behind it deservedly had more than one reason to make this year’s function more colourful , not only for the students but also for teachers and management.

At 10.00 am on Saturday, School Choir gave a meaningful start with a prayer song and Emcee Mrs Jyothy Shetty took charge of the marathon 3.5 hours meticulous presentation. Head mistress of the High School section Mrs Hemavathy PS extended a homely welcome to all the distinguished guests and Office bearers and members of the Management board.

It was a crispy Annual Report by the Principal Prof U Kottraswamy, wherein he tabled the landmark achievements – academic, sports and games and cultural fields by the students. As the listeners had thunderous applause in acknowledging the stellar performances at District and State level. He concluded, ‘National educational Institutions are the incubation centres for the growth, success and progress in a balanced format to face the challenges and train them physically , mentally and provide a platform to exhibit budding talents’

Various lists of achievers, performers, winners were called out by various teachers. Athletes who represented the College at various Tournaments, Cultural competitions and won the prizes were draped with shawls, medals and roses by the guests.

Mr Ashok Kumar Shetty the Secretary of BES specially thanked two Associations responsible to give a relook to this Campus – Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Committee and Old Students Association who left no stone unturned to make the National Campus so attractive and serene place for learning. “Of course it’s a day to rejoice for most of the students, but few didn’t make it to the podium have a second chance as each one of you are gifted with something great may it be in studies, ground and hands….just trace it and sharpen them…”

The Chief Guest of the glittering event, former Principal and a proud Alumni of National Junior College way back in 1977-79, Prof Balakrishna Hegde remembered his nostalgic College days in Barkur, which is at its peak of fame and popularity with extraordinary teachers, Principal and students and ‘now it is your turn dear students to bring more laurels to this great Alma Mater by utilising every single opportunity offered over here…” He continued ‘a college taught us lessons of life, wisdom, hard work and knowledge today grown to be a model Institution he observed’.

‘The very name ‘National ‘inspires and stimulates us and take back us to High School days and what we are today a lion share rightly goes to our High School, which always catered village talents to earn a name and livelihood in contemporary society’- Mr Rajaram Shetty the Chairman of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations shared in his message and asked the senior students not to forget their second home for life time and give it back whatever small way possible in due course, he appealed.

Mr Archibald Furtado, the Admin. Co-coordinator of the National Edu Institutions, in his short address congratulated various prize winners – ‘today we and the College patted your back, for your efforts and wonderful results, you pat each other in your friend circles and peer groups… and at times learn to pat yourself… when you feel you achieved, something unique, special and extra-ordinary’.

Correspondent of the Institutions Mr Gopala Naik presided over the programme, in his address respectfully remembered the role of Old Students, donors and well-wishers, sponsors for various endowment and cash prizes and others who contributed in different ways for the upkeep and maintenance of this temple of learning especially to provide a new look with all infra structure facilities in place. He also congratulated all the prize winners and gave a clarion call “and now it’s time to concentrate in studies and excel in final exams”.

President of NHS Old Students Association Mr S Karunakar Shetty, BES Joint Secretary Mr Shanker Shetty too were present on the dais and shared their feelings. Rotary President Mr Seetaram S, many parents, ex employees – both teachers and staff were present.

To conclude the lengthy prize distribution programme, Mrs Usha Kiran Shetty, Lecturer in Maths, proposed vote of thanks to all who made this special day memorable and successful one. All teachers, Lecturers, Physical educators, non teaching staff put in their best efforts to make the event really wonderful and enjoyable all deserve appreciations…

All the students were served with lunch and Laddus as they carried home – medals, trophies, gifts, cash prizes, certificates and mementos.
