Udupi: Today Friday, 9th February, 2024, evening at 3.00 pm the teenagers at National High School had a special Awareness session.
‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’, a national movement started on 22nd January, 2015 by our Hon Prime Minister to spread awareness among the masses, the equality of all human beings, irrespective of sex and the same was popularised by Sakshi Mallik, the proud recipient of Bronze medal in Rio Olympics in 58 Kg Wrestling 2016, as brand ambassador.
The resource persons explained the alarming imbalance between sex ratio in Northern states and certain parts in our State, as still people consider girl child a liability and responsibility. Legal aspects and the punishment and imprisonment to those who exploit weaker sections of the society, empowerment of females by educating them, taking care of their health and well being etc was discussed.
Earlier a Banana tree was planted in the ground by girls and watered as a symbol of care, concern and growth. Along with Health check up in the Campus. Various placards, hoardings, leaflets distributed to spread the awareness.
The short stage programme was held and Hanehalli Grama President Mrs Mallika presided and lighted the lamp to inaugurate the Seminar.
Various officials from Brahmavara Taluk Administration, Taluk Panchayat Officials, Women and Child Welfare Dept, Health Care Dept and the local Hanehalli Village took initiative to have this event in National Junior College, auditorium.
