English Language Fest in NJC Barkur.

Udupi: National Higher Primary School, Uddalgudde – Hanehalli, now housed in the National Campus arranged a beautiful programme to inculcate like, love and learning – on Saturday a Seminar was held to sow interest among the primary students, which proved to be interesting not only children but also to the parents who attended the programme in large number. It was a workshop at the initiative of HM Mr Uday Shetty and his team of teachers so that a message has been conveyed that schools run in vernacular language like Kannada has equally good exposure to sharpen skills in spoken English.

A short stage programme was set rolling with invoking Almighty Lords blessing through a well sung hymn followed by brief introduction and floral welcome by the HM of NHPS to the Secretary of BES Mr Ashok Kumar Shetty, who presided over the event, Admn Co-ordinator of National Institutions Mr P. Archibald Furtado and the well-known resource person and trainer Mr Uday. Also on the dais were, Mr Sunder Shetty donor and well wisher, HM of National High School, Mrs Hemavathy PS, Mrs Ashwini Kanchan, Lecturer in English, NJC Barkur and others.

Mr Uday outlined the significance and utility of such workshops which are the brainchild of the consortium of Brahmmavar Kannada Medium Schools now copied and practiced in neighbouring districts of DK, Chickmagalore and Uttara Kannada.

In his short message Mr Furtado, explained the role of English in contemporary world and young children easily can learn many languages at ease and expressed happiness such workshops are the first steps towards its implementation of making English easy and interesting.

‘The enthusiasm and involvement of students of KG to VII was really overvaulting and spontaneous as they were trying to converse in English to begin with…’ Mr Ashok Kumar Shetty noticed and opined such initiatives and trainings by Primary Schools under its supervision and control always encouraged by the Management

Various activities were conducted to equip the students with self confidence and prompted to exhibit their talents. The programme was well guided by the English teaching staff of the High School and the PU College.

Though it was a first ever exposition of talents in English –  the MC, all other performers, singers, dancers and actors etc had no stage fear to speak and converse in English and the parents too were astonished to see them  at ease and committed.
