International Students Day celebrated at Milagres College, Paying respects to former President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

Today 15th October, Bharata Ratna, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s Birthday and the world respectfully and deservedly celebrate it as the International Students Day. A great teacher, Scientist, missile man of India above all a simple and humble human being won the hearts of all and sundries earned the name as the People’s President of India.

At sharp 9.20 am all the students of Milagres College, Kallianpur gathered together to pay their respects to APJ Abdul Kalam, in front of the College in a well organised and very disciplined manner to listen from Ms. Laxmi II B Sc, the life and living of great son of India, who had a humble beginning in Tamil Nadu and rose to great heights of honour with his integrity, passion and scientific research in ISRO. He was elected to the highest office as the 11TH President of Indian union and endeared himself to reach out to common man and encouraged and inspired students in a very special way. During his Presidency he paid visits and delivered lectures in innumerable Colleges, Institutions and Universities both across India and abroad.
Ms. Vafa, outlined APJ’s contribution to the Science and research and Ms. Rashmitha III B.Com A, recited a poem highlighting the path of legends journey to be imitated and imbibed for one’s success which have only one route of hard work, dedication and sincerity to its core…….!
A beautiful and artistic portrait was painted by Mr. Mohith II B.Com B, on the spot, which won the hearts of students and teachers who paid their respects to the portrait of APJ on this special occasion.

Principal Dr. Vincent Alva in his message remembered the great values of life; the former President not only preached them but practiced in his life. His sense of discipline, responsibility and simplicity always remained as legacy and his passionate love for the great Indian nation and its youth force always a blessed memory, he said. While concluding he reminded the students that this day is also remembered as the World hand-wash day and insisted students to keep themselves neat and clean and take care of their respective health and hygiene.

The well attended programme was organised by the Students Welfare Council, in association with Library & Information Centre, the latter organised a display of various books on APJ and few written by APJ himself. Among others, Vice Principal Prof. Sophia Dias, Students Council Directors Prof Karthik Nayak, Prof. Harinakshi, Librarian Mrs. Rekha U, all members of teaching and non teaching staff were present on this occasion.

As the beautiful programme compeered by Ms. Aishwarya Kamath, III B Com A, and to involve and inform the students, an interesting Quiz was organised by Ms. Trisha and Ms. Kavita Muscarenhas III B Com B, on the life and contribution of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam wherein the students participated enthusiastically and won the prizes.
