Udupi : Milagres B Ward Feast was celebrated with great enthusiasm on Sunday, 4th June 2023. The event aimed to honor the Ward’s patron saint, St. Pius X. Matilda Lewis was the Master of Ceremonies and skillfully guided the proceedings.
The event commenced with a prayer song by the members of the ward, followed by a prayer service leading the gathering in prayers seeking the blessings of St. Pius X for the community. After this, Mr. William D’souza, the Ward Gurkar, extended a warm welcome to all the guests and attendees, expressing gratitude for their presence at the celebration.
Mrs. Ophelia Lewis, the Ward Representative, then presented a brief report on the various activities and initiatives undertaken by the ward in the past year. Her report highlighted the collective efforts and achievements of the community, showcasing their commitment to the betterment of the ward.
Jacintha D’souza, the Secretary of the Women’s Self-Help Group, shared a comprehensive report on the group’s activities and accomplishments. Her presentation shed light on the group’s efforts in empowering women and fostering financial independence.
The event also featured felicitations to acknowledge and honor individuals who had contributed significantly to the ward. Mr. Alston Dsouza, the previous Gurkar, was felicitated for his exemplary service and leadership. Additionally, Mr. Gregory Dsouza and Mrs. Jacintha Dsouza, the previous Ward Representatives, were recognized for their dedicated efforts. Mrs. Feliciana Lewis, the former parish council Secretary, was also felicitated for her valuable contributions.
Furthermore, the ward took pride in recognizing the academic achievements of two meritorious students. Janice Furtado, who scored an impressive 93.12% in the S.S.L.C examination, and Deborah Wilson, who achieved a commendable 72% in her B.A. degree, were felicitated and encouraged to continue their pursuit of excellence.
The Parish Priest Fr. Valerian Mendonca delivered a heartfelt message to the gathering, emphasizing the significance of St. Pius X and conveying his blessings and well wishes to the entire ward community.
To add entertainment and joy to the festivities, talented ward members took the stage. Mr. Bernard Vaz, Janice, Darren, and Sunitha showcased their skills, captivating the audience with their performances. Riyola, Deborah, and Janice treated the attendees to an enthralling dance performance.
Games were conducted, providing a fun-filled and interactive experience for the participants. The winners of games and competitions were awarded prizes, spreading cheer and excitement.
The thanksgiving was led by the Gurkar, expressing gratitude for organising the event successfully with the collective efforts of the ward members. This was followed by a prayer before meals, conducted by Fr. Joy Andrade, seeking God’s blessings for the food that was served.
The event was honored by the presence of distinguished guests, including the Vicar, Assistant Priest, and Parish Council Vice President, Mr. Melwyn Sequeira and Sister Lilia from St. Rose Convent. Gurkars from other wards too attended the event, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie among the parish communities.
The celebration concluded with a delicious meal served to all.
