Udupi: The members of the secular Franciscan Order (SFO) at Milagres Cathedral in Kallianpur came together to honor their Patron Saint, St. Francis of Assisi, on Sunday, October 8, 2023.
The Mass was held at 8 am, celebrated by Fr. Joy Andrade, the Asst. Parish Priest of Milagres Cathedral. The Mass was dedicated to the memory of St. Francis of Assisi and was attended by a large congregation of devout parishioners. The SFO members took charge of the liturgy, infusing it with reverence and devotion.
Fr. Joy Andrade delivered an inspiring homily that resonated with the congregation. His message, centered around the life and teachings of St. Francis, brought the saint’s timeless wisdom into the context of today’s world. He emphasized values of humility, simplicity, and unity as essential virtues to be emulated in our daily lives.
Following the Mass, Tea and refreshments were distributed to all the congregants creating an atmosphere of warmth and togetherness.
A distinctive feature of the celebration was the attire of the women members who adorned a uniform saree, presenting a symbol of unity and cohesion within the order and also conveyed a message of solidarity among the female members of the SFO.
