Udupi: Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur,  celebrated Christmas Eve on December 24, 2023, with fervor and joy. The festivities began at 7 pm with a captivating tableau presented by kids from Milagres English Medium School, depicting the birth of Jesus Christ and the visit of the Three Kings.

The Solemn Eucharistic mass, led by Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese and concelebrated by  Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Rector of the Cathedral, Rev Fr. Joy Andrade Asst. parish Priest and Rev Fr. Ronson D’Souza, parishioner and Director of Holy Cross Students Home, Katapadi.  In his homily, the Bishop .featured on the essence of Christmas, emphasizing the divine becoming human. Bishop Lobo underscored the celebration as a festival of love, tolerance, and brotherhood, symbolizing the birth of Jesus Christ, the beloved Son of God.

Rector of the Cathedral  Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca expressed gratitude to all involved in the Christmas Eve celebrations, extending warm greetings to parishioners and guests. The Bishop honoured the main sponsor of the feast Mr. Lesley Lewis by presenting decorated candles and to other sponsors. Bishop Lobo acknowledged the parishioners’ enthusiastic participation and urged generous contributions for an upcoming presbytery project which was constructed more than a century ago which needs urgent reconstruction.

After the mass, the parishoners exchanged greetings. A Christmas Cake was cut by the Bishop on the occasion.  ICYM members organized a dance with two christmas santa clauses entertaining the participants and organized a housie game and a beautifully crafted Christmas Crib.The entire Cathedral campus was adorned with stars and lights, creating a festive atmosphere.
