Secular Franciscan Brothers Celebrates the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

Udupi: The Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, celebrated on a provincial scale, marked a significant day for the Congregation of the Secular Franciscan Brothers. It brought together members and supporters in a day filled with spiritual reflection, cultural enrichment, and fellowship, reaffirming the congregation’s dedication to following in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi and spreading his message of peace and love. They all  came together in a grand celebration on October 23, 2023, to celebrate the  same in the Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur.

The day began with members from all the neighbouring parishes registering for the event, creating an atmosphere of unity and anticipation. A hearty breakfast was then served, promoting a sense of camaraderie among participants.

The religious observance commenced with the recitation of the Divine Mercy Rosary.  Rev.  Fr.  Valerian Mendonca, Rector of the Milagres Cathedral, celebrated the  Holy Mass and delivered an inspiring homily, paying tribute to the enduring spirit of St. Francis of Assisi. Concelebrating the Mass were Fr. Joachim, the Spiritual Director of the Kallianpur Province,  Fr.  John, the Parish Priest of Brahmavar Parish, Fr.  Joy Andrade and the Pilar Fathers.

Following the Mass, a  get-together and cultural program was held  at the Milagres Tri Centenary Hall.

Sister Jacintha Lewis, President of the Province, welcomed all the members  who have attended from all the neighbouring parishes.   Jacintha Rekha, Secretary of the Province, presented the annual report, summarizing the year’s activities and achievements.

Members of the Franciscan brothers and sisters from Kemmannu, Brahmavara, Sasthan, and Mount Rosary parishes captivated the audience with songs and a peace skit inspired by the life and teachings of St. Francis of Assisi, conveying messages of peace and love.

Adding an element of fun and interaction, Kallianpur Unit members organized a lively game of Housie House. Rev.  Fr. Valerian Mendonca, the Rector of the Cathedral, distributed prizes to the winners. He  also delivered a  message on the occasion, encapsulating the spiritual significance of the day.

Mrs. Eugene Rebello expressed gratitude to everyone who has attended from near and far and also to the organizers for their involvement. Mrs. Florine Teacher served as the compere, ensuring a well-organized and engaging celebration.

The day concluded with a sumptuous Biryani, leaving attendees with a satisfying culinary experience. The event left attendees inspired and spiritually enriched, celebrating the enduring legacy of St. Francis in grand style.
