Udupi: On Sunday, January 7, 2024, the Annual Feast was officially inaugurated by raising the Milagres Flag. This celebration, held the Sunday before the commencement of the nine-day Novena starting on January 8, precedes the Parish Feast to be celebrated on January 16 and 17, 2024.
Continuing the more than 3 centuries old tradition, Very Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Rector and Vicar of Milagres Cathedral, led the hoisting of the Our Lady of Milagres Flag.
The Maadi Fest, known locally as “Kodi Yeravuni” in Tulu, symbolizes the preparation for the grand feast, culminating in the Besp or Vespers on Tuesday evening and the grand thanksgiving Eucharistic celebration of the whole parish as one family on Wednesday.
The historical tradition, observed for more than 3 centuries at all the churches in Udupi and Mangalore dioceses, involved raising the parish flag with a depiction of Our Lady of Miracles on an Arecanut tree (Maadi) in front of the church.
The Confraternity Sunday is scheduled for January 14, 2024, featuring Mass, adoration of the blessed sacrament, concluding with a Eucharistic procession to Ozanam Home for the Aged.
