Arch-bishop emeritus Rt Rev. Dr Leo Carnelio felicitated at his mother parish – Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte – Kallianpur.

Udupi: A proud parishioner,  son of the soil, born at Kakkunje in the famed Carnelio family and joined SVD at the age of 13, completed a long journey of religious and contented life of service, simplicity and compassion of 50 great years as priest, in the Lord’s vineyard and 25 years as the Bishop.

Bishop Leo Carnelio has served in different positions of responsibility and authority including Bishop of Kandwa Diocese and later as Archbishop of Bhopal, in Madhya Pradesh.

Led by parish priest Rev Dr Roque DSouza aptly supported by Asst Parish priest Fr Oliver Nazareth, Vice President and Office bearers of the Parish pastoral council organised a simple but meaningful ceremony to honour a proud son of the parish. After the Thanksgiving Holy Mass concelebrated by the trios, on Sunday, 5TH November, 2023 at 8.00 AM, wherein the Jubilarian and the main celebrant Bishop Carnelio, in his homily called upon the faithful to be ‘united in Christ, by showing concern and care to the neighbour ‘.

After Holy Eucharist, Fr Oliver Nazareth requested the celebrant with Vicar to occupy the seat of honour and Church leaders, family members and heads of all parish pious organisations and institutions, Convent, Hospital paid their respects to the Bishop on this glorious occasion. Vicar Rev Dr Roque DSouza gave a crispy brief of Bishop’s life journey and his attachment and love for the parish over the years.

The Jubilarian, while expressing his feelings, remembered past and present priests who served at Mount Rosary, the parishioners and the family members for their magnanimity and love over the years. The Rosarian choir sang a beautiful Jubilee Song specially composed for this occasion.

To conclude the beautiful programme, Mrs Priya Furtado, Secretary, PPC proposed a vote of thanks.
